TUCSON, Ariz. - Tucson is now home to the first blacksmithing school in the Southwest that also teaches the science behind the craft.
Desert Metal Craft opened their doors Saturday, Feb. 2.
The school offers workshops and hands-on classes including blacksmithing for beginners, bladesmithing, and art fabrication.
Instructor Liz Cameron teaches metallurgy classes at Pima Community College. Another instructor, Rich Greenwood also taught courses at PCC after being featured on the A&E series "Forged in Fire." Pete Brown met Greenwood and Cameron while taking their classes at PCC, and is currently a blacksmith in training.
The launch party included demonstrations, raffles, and even face painting for the kids.

Desert Metal Craft is located at 544 E 24th Street in Tucson.
Workshops and classes begin as early as Saturday and cost between $100 - $600. You can enroll here. Classes are available for all ages and interests.
Currently, Desert Metal Craft doesn't offer certifications. Cameron says many students who are looking for that also attend classes at PCC.
